Haunted Navada

NEVADA

-Curry House, Carson City.
406 N. Nevada Street, Carson City.

Abe Curry left his wife behind in New York when he came west in 1850 to search for gold. It took several years for him to make enough money to bring her west, and in 1871 he built her a beautiful limestone home. But when Abe died his total wealth consisted of a single silver dollar he had in his pocket. That may be why he returns here, searching for his wife Mary, whom he left alone and destitute. See Nevada State Museum, below.

The privately owned house is on the corner of North Nevada and West Telegraph streets, at 406 North Nevada Street, Carson City, NV 89703. The house is featured on the Kit Carson Trail Ghost Tour. For information, call 800-638-2321.

Known as the "Cathedral of the Confederacy" because of the regular attendance of Jefferson Davis and the when-in-town attendance of Robert E. Lee. While in Sunday services here April 2, 1865, Davis received the final word that Lee's lines had broken at Petersburg and that the president must evacuate his government. Consecrated in 1845, this Greek Revival building still houses an active congregation. Lee's and Davis' pews are marked. Tiffany windows. Visitors welcome daily 10 am - 4 pm. In fact, visitors are so welcome the ghost of a woman can often be seen in an upstairs window!

At the junction of 305 and 50 lies this semi-ghost town. Many original buildings still reside among current residents. The International, the oldest hotel in Nevada built in 1859, is said to be haunted by a former owner or employee called Tommy. He is seen and sometimes felt at the end of the bar and can be heard clomping around upstairs.

Haunted, so they say, by a "Mr. Petre", a man who lived on the grounds before the theater was built. Many report strange sounds and seeing his apparition.

Okay, most of the places I have encountered list this as the Boulder City Hotel but after research I think they may be referring to the Boulder Dam Hotel in Boulder City. Check the above link. Many reports have been filed in this historic site which is now a full service hotel, restaurant, and historic files office. Reports include noises and apparitions.

-GOLDFIELD

Goldfield Hotel

Built on top of an abandoned gold mine, this 154-room hotel was first opened in 1908. Since then, it has undergone extensive renovations and added a few nonpaying guests. The hotel is considered to be home to several ghosts. In the downstairs employees' area at the west end of the hotel, Room 109 is a small room with a single bed. The room is haunted by the presence of a pregnant woman, believed to be a prostitute named Elizabeth who was chained in the room by George Winfield, the original owner of the hotel. After giving birth, the woman was left to die in the room and her baby was thrown down the old mine shaft at the northern end of the basement. Elizabeth's ghost turned up on a photograph taken in the room by a reporter from Las Vegas. On the first floor, the George Winfield Room is said to be haunted by his ghost. Untraceable cigar smoke and fresh ashes have been found there. George's presence has also been detected near the lobby staircase, where the ghosts of a midget and two small children have also been seen. The Gold Room is haunted by a ghost that "stabs" people. High psychic energy has been detected in the Theodore Roosevelt Room and a southwest room on the third floor. Some psychics say that the Goldfield Hotel is one of only seven portals to the "Other Side" that exist in the modern world.
