New York HauntsRaynham Hall Museum- Oyster Bay, Long Island (NY) - built in 1740 by Samuel Townsend and named after his family's ancestral home in England (which is also said to be haunted), this location was used as British headquarters after the British occupied New York during the American Revolution. Robert Townsend, son of Samuel, was one of George Washington's spies and died at the home at the age of 83 in 1838. Robert has not been seen or heard from, however, other specter's such as John Andre as well as lights and voice phenomena have been seen, heard and felt on the premises.
- my cousin and I drove around Oyster Bay one night a few years ago. We stumbled across the place while looking for haunted places and parked outside. We took several photos of the building, as well as the windows. In some of the pics, lights could be seen as if a candle were lit in the window even though the interior was actually dark and no one was inside at all. Also, in one picture, the outline of a hooded figure hovered in the window as if it were watching us. It was pretty spooky. We were uneasy most of the time we were there so we didn't stay long. we have yet to actually go inside the museum and check it out during the day.
Greenwood Cemetery - Brooklyn, NY - Greenwood Cemetery encompasses the highest point in Brooklyn. A hill, rising to just around 500ft above sea level, sits inside the grounds, marking the location of "The Battle of Brooklyn". As with most sites from the American Revolution, this one purports to have been the site of a 'turning point'. A marker is inside the cemetery noting the battle, however, it is not on the actual site for some reason. Apparitions, strange noises and colored orbs have been seen in and around the cemetery.
- my cousin and I have never been inside the cemetery since at night, it is locked up and fenced in. There is a patrol car that makes its rounds so we have taken that into consideration. We have parked outside the cemetery fence in several locations and have found three very active spots. One spot feels very creepy. Many times we have felt like we were being watched. In this area, my cousin's camera has stopped working or conked out for no reason only to start working again at every other location. She thought she saw someone walking amongst the tombstones once also. We also have a pic that once enlarged, looks like the face of a man from the 1700s peeking out from behind the leaves of a tree. The most active location has a purple orb that bounces all over the place. Both my cousin and I have captured this moving orb on two different cameras! I have one photo from that area with the orb glowing and rising from a grave. It was WILD. I will upload it here as soon as I can retrieve it from my old PC and upload it online. All opinions are welcome!
Kings Park Psychiatric Center - abandoned psychiatric hospital/mental institution. Part of the property was sold to the City/State and has been made part of a bird sanctuary. The buildings on that portion of property are still standing and can be seen if you pay the park entrance fee and walk around inside.
The large main building that remains on the actual hospital property (not the sanctuary) looms over the treeline (VERY creepy) and can be seen from most of the local roads. One of the "big three" psyche centers on Long Island (the three being Kings Park, Pilgrim Psychiatric Center and Central Islip Psychiatric Center) during the early part of the 20th century until the 70s/80s, Kings Park had its own power plant and agricultural support. It was self sustaining with its employees living in the homes that surrounded the property. Many different stories abound of lights, strange noises and screams coming from the abandoned buildings. Supposedly, illegal experiments, murders and mistreatment of the patients living at Kings Park left many tortured souls behind. A mass grave is supposedly located just off the hospital site and is now part of the grounds of a local school. A good portion of the hospital property is shrouded by trees and bushes (which has always been the case by the way) in addition to high fences, making it seem as though 'they' didn't want anyone to know what went on inside. There is one public street that runs along the length of the grounds, piercing it straight across the middle so to speak. If you look to one side you can see some abandoned administrative buildings and a path/drive leading towards a gate that leads to the road. The other side also has a gate and a path/drive onto the other side of the property. The smoke stack from the power plant looms right above in this spot and let me tell you, parking there at dusk was pretty darned scary. I felt like I was being watched from inside the grounds like someone was daring me to enter (which is illegal) and it wasn't guards or police that gave me that feeling. You could almost feel the despair, the dread and sense impending 'death' in that area. Almost like I shouldn't be there. Folks who have been inside say the atmosphere is VERY heavy and oppressive and that shadows can be seen, maybe even a dark entity roams one of the areas in the main building. I haven't been back there yet , even to view it from the outside!
