The staff elevator runs repeatedly on it's own here, stopping at routine floors on and off throughout the night. Some day, as the doors start to open, you may catch a glimpse of a person before they disappear.

Liberty Memorial Building
This 1920s building is haunted by a ghostly presence known as the Stack Monster. The building used to house the state historical society and was used to store and exhibit thousands of Indian and pioneer artifacts, skeletons, and old books. It is thought the ghost was brought to the building with one of those items. Feelings of dread, unexplainable footsteps and voices, and strange shadows have plagued workers here for the past twenty-five years. The building is now home to the North Dakota Department of Tourism.
The Liberty Memorial Building is located on the grounds of the state capitol in central Bismarck, at 604 East Blvd., Bismarck ND 58505. Phone: 701-224-2525

University of North Dakota
There have been several sightings of the ghost of a girl, usually without legs, floating up one of the tunnels that connect Wilkerson Dining Hall to five dormitories on this campus. In 1988, three students saw her apparition in the West Hall tunnel. They described her as about five feet five inches tall, with short dark hair, wearing a nightshirt. In December 1962, before the tunnels were constructed, a young coed froze to death about sixty feet from West Hall. It is thought she slipped on the ice while trying to make her way to the dining hall at around 2:00 a.m.
