The Whaley House, Old Town, San Diego, CAThere are many links about The Whaley House.
I visited it when I lived in San Diego. During my tour (the house is rich in history and hauntings), I noticed 3 things that later turned out to be paranormal.
First, in The Music Room, I noticed a key was pressed on an antique piano (organ? I can't remember). I thought perhaps it was broken. On my way out of the house, I looked, again, and the key was in its normal, correct position.
Okay. So a little tiny thing...
The other 2 things were smells.
While looking into the kitchen (you cannot go in...), I smelled what I thought was cinnamon and flowers. It was a very strong smell. I'd once visited the home of Abraham Lincoln and seen cookies and apples on display in the kitchen/dining area. I looked for something similar in The Whaley Hosue kitchen, but couldn't find anything.
When I stood in the doorway of Mr. Whaley's study, I smelled sulfur...as if from a burnt match. I looked through the door at the end of the hall that led outside but saw no one in the gardens. I asked the women from The Historical Society (who run the place) if anyone was smoking nearby. You'd have thought I'd started a fire, from their responses! Needless to say, there was no one smoking anywhere near the house.
On my way out, I paid a quarter for a sheet of paper that told of the house and its history. Since I'd just had the tour, I didn't read the paper until much later.
On it, others had reported smelling the house's mistress's perfume...a combination of flowers and spice...and tobacco smoke (Mr. Whaley smoked a pipe, I believe...) near the study.
Since then, knowing what I know about how hard it can be to experience anything paranormal when you're looking for it, I've felt lucky to have had those 3 experiences.
Peace out. GFW

You spoke of smelling sulphur, burnt matches. Amanda, Todd, Joey & I smelled burnt matches at Waverly. I wonder what that means.

I think it's just another form of contact...like seeing shadows or hearing disembodied voices or getting EVP's. I've smelled other things, at other times, in other places. I suppose even smells have their own energetic vibrations...
Peace out. GFW

I have smelled burnt matches in many investigations, I would have to agree maybe it is another form of presenting themselves, not 100% though, but it is strange how many times I have encounters it.
