i found this story this was not written by me.

Satan's Tunnel is an Eerieplace beleived to be haunted, located in rural missouri with lots of legendsand stories....

This area has lots of historyand "stories" so to say. I've heard many things about this area.The area i was speaking of, which has a long tunnel and the railroadused to run on top. I first heard this area referred to as satan'stunnel. One story goes that long ago this area was owned by and hada settlement of satan worshippers. I've tried to find anything on the people who settled here long ago, and the only thing i canfind is the shake rag community who was said to have settled in thisarea. They wore rags on their heads and practiced strange dances,and people thought them of very strange, so i'm guessing that maybepeople long ago who weren't used to that type of thing and namedthem as satan worshippers. So my research got a tiny bit of infoto perhaps back the story up.

Some other stories of thisarea came from the railroad....
It was said that a guywas walking along the railroad a while back and got hit by the trainover the tunnel and fell down to the concrete below and died there.Another story goes that a group of teens in the seventies were atthe tunnel to go party, and they met an old bum who had taken shelter inside the tunnel. The bum told them the story of the man who gotkilled there and his ghost still haunts the tunnel and told the teensthat if you walk very quietly through the tunnel you can still hearthe warning whistle of the train. And warned them that theentire area was evil and they should leave and never come back. Afew days later the bum was found dead of a heart attack inside thetunnel, his face twisted and frozen in fear. There was actually stillsome old caution tape around the tunnel when i visited this place.

Another story i heard,is that a guy hanged himself in the area of the tunnel and if yougo there just before sunset and look up the hill to the tunnel youcan see his shadow hanging from a tree.

Who knows if any of thesedeaths actually occured, but a lot of people in the area have heardsome story or another about this place. Some people refuse to evengo there because of their own past experiences. I've also heard that there is an old cemetery in this area but haven't found it yet, Idid go hiking around the area and found an old school house way inthe woods, with a chalkboard and names signed dating in the 1970's,which makes sense that the railroad closed around then. I can't findany records on the old school either. If anyone knows who owns theland around this tunnel I'd really like to know!

I'd always heard that therailroad closed because of the violent death at the tunnel, so that'swhen my research on this railroad began

I want to see if i canfind anything at the local library about this "Satan's Tunnel" orthe supposed deaths there, maybe I can find old records on file somewhere.

I have been to the Tunel about 1 hundred times, and the place still freaks
me out. The thing that freaks me out about it is that there is some kind of
camp on top of the tunnel, and no one seems to know what it is used for.
And a small town of only like 500 people you would think somebody would know.
There is a road that you can go down to go over the tunel back to the camp,
and there are several electric fences that you pass. A friend of mine went
down the road before and when he turned around the fences were closed and
he had to tear them down so he could get out. A bunch of my friends and I
went down the road before and the woods on both sides of the road are so
thick that you cant see very far into them. We passed three of the fences
and we still didnt see anything. We got scared and turned around before
they started to shut. That same night we went through the tunel and kept
going down the creek bed and the creek bed turned into a drive way with a
fence on either side and at the endings of the fence there were two big
wagon wheels sitting there. Another one of my friends said he was down
there and a man came out of nowhere and it scared them and they all took off.

I originally had no intentions of e-mailing you, but after I saw your
Truxton pictures I couldn't help myself. The Satan's Tunnel pictures are
really good too. Looks really different during the day. But I couldnt help
but notice that you didn't have the legend about the girl that hung herself
on the page. I had never heard of the others, just that one. But then
again, high school kids tend to bend the truth quite a bit.
This may be a little off the topic, but was the tunnel covered in moss at
all or had some of the grafitti been cleaned off?? My friend (Michelle, you
can see her name clearly in orange on some of your pictures) went there with
two other people and they all wrote their names in that orange spray paint,
and shes a little shakin up that only her name appears. And while you were
at the Tunnel did you have any problems with the guy that lives in the house
near it? I personally never have, but the baby dolls hanging from trees in
front of his house, doesnt really give me that warming welcome feeling.
I have personally only been to the tunnel a grand total of one times.
But I'd love to see the old schoolhouse, sounds interesting! I just hope it isnt
as intimidating in the day time as it is at night. I know you mentioned the
cemetary on your webpage and my friends mom said it was just on the other
side of the tunnel. Although she went to bed before I could get the exact
location. Anywho the whole story of the girl hanging herself.. As I've always heard
it, the reason it's called Satan's tunnel is the man that used to live in
the house, would sit on top of the tunnel with a shotgun during the middle
of the night. The girl that hung herself was his daughter and he had
problems with graffiti (He'd probably be pissed if he saw it now) so he sat
there and scared off kids. But that was years ago, because the first times I
ever heard the story was from friends parents. So that would put it around
the 1970-80s or so. I havent heard of anyone being threatened with a shotgun
out there. At least not from liable sources.
Now the bum story I remember my grandmother mentioning this to me. But I
dont think it was near The Tunnel, but rather over on Pickney (road to the
high school). They found a bum in one of the sewer tunnels, he was stabbed I
do believe. And the only hanging I've ever heard of is, just up the road
from where that happen near the Rebecca Boone Playground. But that
happened around 1990.

Hey,
I recently came upon your site about Satans Tunnel, I live in Hawk Point
Missouri, about 2 miles away. I had always heard stupid stories about the
place, and then recently my friends said it was a Missouri Haunted place,
and my cousin was telling me about the old owners of the property being Satan
Worshipers. My friends and i like to go down there at night sometimes just
to scare ourselves, but we had no idea that it was supposedly haunted. And it
does give you a strange dark feeling when you are there, kinda like, well i
cant explain it.
Well,
I have heard just about the same stories you have, mainly the one i always
hear is of the man getting hit and falling to his death, I have also heard of
it as being a child that lost a hand on the railroad there, or that child
got hit and not a man. I had never heard the bum story. Well my friends and I
are much more interested i this place that we just once knew as a fun place
to shoot fireworks and stuff. We plan on going out there during different
times of the day this week to check it out, and we are going to hike to find
the school, and yes it is called happy hill school i think. But out at the
tunnel I have never walked around just for the fact that I was a little
hesitant about finding the owners of the property, but I am definatley
going out there to hike around a bit now. Near the Tunnel there is an
almost vertical trail that goes up the hill, kind of like a 4x4 could
make it up, or something of that nature, but it doesnt seem too worn
down, I plan to check that out further, as in seeing it might lead to

I went to satan's tunnel last night which was october 15 with my family and we
walked through it, and then we were going back to the cars. So we got to the cars and
then off to the right my uncle said there was some sort of door, so we walked
over there and then we heard some chanting and it was very faint at first
then it was getting closer and closer so i was trying to get everone to leave.
So then we walked to the cars and still heard the chanting. We couldn't make out what it said
but it sounded as if the person was right there, and as we were pulling away i
looked up and u could see someone standing at the top of the hill and my mom
was freaking out but no one else but me my mom and my grandma saw the person
i don't know what it all means but maybe it will help u with you reasearch.

My name is Josh, and about the Satans Tunnel,Well here goes, a few days ago some friends and i went up there for the first time, we wanted to see if the stories we heard were true, one story that wasn't on here was, a a few men were at the tunnel and there was an argument and there was a scuffle and one of the men were killed by the others and no one heard him creamin because of the train goin by, and its said if your in the tunnel, be quite and you can hear a slight soft yell... well we went up there and we parked our truck in the tunnel shut it off, and waited and listen, there were only some noises but they were weird. rocks just fell from the top of the tunnel and we heard some things splash in the water in the tunnel. but nothing i guess out of the ordinary.. But the crazy thing is we went back the next night, and we wanted to see it again and we brought our camera to see what we could get,well we went to the end of the road past the tunnel to turn around and on our way back, i kidd you not, there was a man in the road no shirt on he had dirty shorts and was really pale. He was in the middle of the road, and didn't move for like 30 seconds, then he slowly walked to the truck and asked what we were doin back her in a soft voice, my friends were all to scared to say anything so i sucked it up and calmly said well sir we heard about stories here and we wanted to see for ourselves, he looked at me and said what are you doin, i think you need to leave.. so we did, and when i looked back there was no one.. I mean NO one, there where he had been,. i mean there was no light anywhere we only saw him cause he was right around the bend when we turn to go straight but anyways he was no where when i lookd back to see where he was i told my friends they hit the gas and all anyone said was it was erie.. well i just thought i would tell you..Thanks alot..... I know this is a realatively old post so forgive me if you've already made new discoveries on this but surely someone in town must know who owns the land. Have you tried the county assessors web page or tried calling the recorders office? If the deaths actually occured there must have been something in the local papers and maybe the surrounding ones too. I'm interested to see what you find. Good luck.

Ok maybe a dumb question but where is this place located again. I know about 4 places in MO.... KC, St. LOU, Springfeild, and that one place with the division 3 football team..........um I think its the U of Missouri (Sorry tiger fans just a joke).
