Aetna Springs Golf Course, Pope Valley, Clifornia.
1600 Aetna Springs Road, Pope Valley, CA 94567, 707-965-2115
*Website
There have been reports of eight monks walking across the golf course. It is believed that they are the ghosts of tortured friars from the early 1500's.
-Hotel Del Coronado, Coronado, California.
1500 Orange Avenue, Coronado, CA 92118. 800-HOTELDEL
*Website
Room 502 (now 3502) was rumored to be the love nest of hotel builder and owner E. S. Babcock. The ill-fated mistress staying in this room took her own life soon after learning she was with child. The body later disappeared, perhaps removed by someone wishing to avoid an ugly scandal. Today, lights sometimes flicker in the room, and outside the door, an icy chill may be felt. Near Thanksgiving 1892 a pregnant Kate Morgn checked herself into the hotel under the name of Lottie Anderson Bernard. After 5 lonely nights in room 312 (now 3312) anxiously waiting for her wayward husband to join her, she put a .44 caliber bullet into her head. Her body and the hand gun were found near the steps leading to the beach
-Roosevelt Hotel, Hollywood, California.
7000 Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood, CA 90028. 323-466-7000
*Website
The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel supposedly has not just one, but two celebrity ghosts! Montgomery Clift, stayed at the hotel for three months while rehearsing his role in the 1953 movie "From Here to Eternity." His ghost now allegedly haunts room #928 of the 9th floor of the hotel, playing a trumpet, and pacing the hallways while reciting his old lines.
At the same historic Roosevelt Hotel, the ghost of Marilyn Monroe has supposedly been seen several times in a full-length mirror, which was originally located in her poolside Suite 1200, where Marilyn often stayed. The mirror in which her image supposedly appears is now located next to the elevator on the lower level.
There is also supposed to be a "cold spot" in the Blossom Ballroom at the same Roosevelt Hotel (the room where the very first Academy Awards ceremony was held), a circle about 30 inches in diameter and about 10 degrees colder than the rest of the ballroom.
-Comedy Store, Los Angeles, California.
8433 Sunset Boulevard 90027, 213-656-6225.
Before this Sunset Strip locale became the Comedy Store, it was the site of Ciro's, one of Hollywood's hottest clubs during the '40s and '50s. That's when entertainers like Martin and Lewis were slaying 'em in the front room, while gangsters like Mickey Cohen were running rackets out of the back, inflicting pain {and worse}, on rivals and gambling deadbeats.
The spirits of the long-deceased Cohen and his equally dead victims return occasionally and make their presences felt with ominous growls, groans and hulking apparitions. Even in death, these shades play rough. Just ask real-life ghostbuster Dr. Barry Taff, a professor at UCLA. Taff was brought in to sweep the premises and ventured into a storage area below the stage. Suddenly, he felt an agonizing pain, as if his kneecaps were being shattered, and dropped to the ground. Evidently, Mickey and his goons still pack a punch.
-Naval Postgraduate School, Monterrey, California.
1 University Circle, Monterey, CA 93943. 831-656-2441
*Website
The Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey was once the Hotel Del Monte. This structure, built in the late 1920's, is third hotel of the same name built on the site. The first two burned. The first one, opened in 1880 by the Pacific Improvement Corporation, (a subsidiary of the SP Railroad) created a reason for upscale tourists to ride the rail line to Monterey. It was a world-class hotel with meticulously landscaped gardens, some of which are still there to see. Guests usually spent at least one day taking a carraige ride along the 17-Mile Drive, created by the company as a scenic attraction.
The original hotel burned in 1887, and was rebuilt the next year. The second structure burned in 1926. Some say the third building is haunted by the ghost of the fire chief who failed to save the original hotel in 1887.
-Alcatraz, San Francisco, California.
No address listed.

*Tour Info
The infamous Alcatraz is said to be haunted by the ghosts of many, many prisoners who died there, including the Bird Man, "Machine Gun" Kelly and Al Capone. Voices are heard in the former eating area and cell blocks when no one else is around. Footsteps and the sounds of cell doors opening and closing also echo throughout the corridors. People have reported feeling "cold spots" in certain areas and the feeling that they are not alone, even when they are.
-Winchester Mystery House, San Jose, California.
525 S. Winchester Blvd, San Jose, California, 95128. 408-247-2000
*Website
This house is plagued by many strange stories! Please visit the website above for detailed information.
-Bellmont House, Victorville, California.
Located 5-10 miles from George Air Force base. It's a two story home on top of hill. Still attempting to locate address.
This home is said to be haunted by the spirits of a young girl and her grandmother who perished in a murder/suicide.
-Union Hotel - Benicia, California. 401 First Street, Benicia, CA 707-746-0110
*Hotel Website
It's been told that, at The Union Hotel, in the late 1800's a distraught young woman hung herself in her room. Over the years, numerous employees and guests have reported seeing her wandering the hallways and appearing in various rooms. In fact, the individual who emailed me this haunted location has seen the woman herself on three separate occasions. It's also been said that people walking down the nighttime streets can often see her peering sadly from the windows. She's not alone, however. A spirit of a young man haunts the bar and the dining room, leaving many people to believe these two sad souls are somehow connected, as he is often seen pacing or sitting at one of the tables, staring wistfully off to the stairs as if waiting his love.
-Groveland Hotel - Groveland, California.
18767 Main St, Groveland, CA 209-962-4000
The Groveland Hotel of California is has a live-in spirit named Lyle. He once worked in a now defunct mine in the creek that runs alongside the hotel, and he lived in The Groveland Hotel until he died in his room in 1927. Being a recluse, he wasn't missed for a few days. If you stay in his room, you may find that Lyle dislikes women's cosmetics on his dresser. He moves them to the sink nearby. Most guests return to their rooms to note the movement. One guest watched as her new makeup just hopped over the back and landed on the floor! Lyle also likes to play with the lights, move items on desks in the office, and turn on the water in the shower. He can even somehow make it so a key temporarily does not work in a lock. The Charlotte Hotel across the street was built and operated by a woman named Charlotte DeFerrari. It is rumored that Lyle and Charlotte were once an item. When he seems to disappear for a while from the hotel, some suspect they may be together.
-Madrona Manor - Healdsburg, California.
1001 Westside Road, Healdsburg, CA 707-433-4231
Benevolent spirits in residence keep guests company. They include one known as Elsie in the dining room and a young girl in room 101.
-Queen Mary Hotel - Longbeach, California.
1126 Queens Hwy, Long Beach, CA 310-435-3511
*Website
This ocean liner, now permanently docked at the Port of Long Beach, was commissioned in 1936 and journeyed a thousand Atlantic crossings. Many incidents of strange rapping noises, moving objects, disembodied voices, and ghostly apparitions have been reported by staff, guests, and investigators on the docked ship. The First Class Swimming Pool, said to be the most haunted place aboard, is haunted by the ghosts of two women who drowned there. One is dressed in 1960s clothing and the other wears 1930s attire. The forlorn ghost of a little boy who fell overboard near the pool has also been sighted in the passageway there. For some unknown reason, many psychics have detected strongly negative feelings in the Changing Rooms at the end of the pool. The old first class lounge, now know as the Queens Salon, is haunted by the ghost of a beautiful woman in a flowing white dress. Unexplainable balls of light and the apparition of a black-haired man in a 1930s suit have been seen by tour guides in the First Class Suite area. The Forward Storage Room, where the ship's archives are kept, is haunted by the sounds of children playing. Inexplicable pounding sounds have been recorded near the Bosun's Locker, which is the area of the hull which sliced the British Light Cruiser Curacoa in half during World War II. Because of her wartime sailing orders, the Queen Mary was not allowed to stop to rescue survivors, and 338 men perished in the cold ocean. The Tourist Class Swimming Pool is haunted by the presence of a woman who drowned in it, and the third-level Cabin B340 is haunted by a murdered purser and is no longer rented out because of unexplained disturbances there.
Poltergeist activity has been reported in the Kitchen, where a cook was murdered during World War II. It is said his cooking was so terrible that it caused a riot among troops being carried to the front. The violence quickly got out of hand and the cook ended up stuffed inside an oven and burned to death. His ghastly screams were somehow impregnated into the ship's iron bulkhead and are sometimes replayed to startled visitors. The ghosts in the ship's Morgue could have any of a number of identities. Sixteen crewmembers, two G.I.s and 31 passengers have died on the ship. But the most documented sighting is the apparition of an 18-year-old crewman, John Pedder. Pedder was crushed to death while trying to slip through an automatically closing door in Shaft Alley during a routine watertight drill on July 10, 1966. It was watertight door #13. Another crewman haunting the Queen Mary is Senior 2nd Officer William Stark. He was accidentally poisoned in 1949, when he drank tetrachloride that the staff captain kept in an old gin bottle. Dozens and dozens of witnesses have had experiences aboard the Queen Mary Hotel. Will you be next at one of the most haunted hotels on Earth?
-Mendocino Hotel And Garden Suite - Mendocino, California.
45080 Main St, Mendocino, CA 707-937-0511
*Hotel Website
The hotel reports that a Victorian woman haunts tables 6 and 8 in the restaurant, appearing in the mirror. She has been seen in guest rooms and is said to be playful with the housekeepers as well.
-The Georgian Hotel - Santa Monica, California.
1415 Ocean Ave, Santa Monica, CA 310-395-9945
*Hotel Website
The Georgian Hotel, opened in 1933, in Santa Monica was a place where patrons could enjoy alcoholic spirits during the Prohibition Era. Today, the hotels' Speakeasy restaurant is haunted. Invisible but audible ghosts have been reported over the years, as well as transparent apparitions. In an otherwise empty restaurant, employees have heard loud sighs or gasps, disembodied voices calling "Good Morning," and the sound of running footsteps.

Ok in Fremont Ca (my town) there is a canyon, it is called Niles Canyon at one end is the city it ends in the city of Sunol. One version of the story goes like this -At the intersection of Scott's Corner, which is now where highway 84 meets highway 680, a young beautiful bride was on her way to her wedding in a horse drawn carriage when suddenly the horses were spooked and the bride was thrown from the vehicle and instantly killed.
There are various reports of people seeing her ghost in the canyon every year on February 26, They say the woman wearing a beautiful but dirty white wedding dress is wandering by the side of the road looking for a ride.
There is a story of an unsuspecting motorist who stopped to give her a ride. She tells them that she is trying to get to San Francisco and gives the driver the address. But before the car reaches the Dumbarton Bridge, she disappears into thin air. The scared and confused driver continues on to the address given by the woman and the person who lives at the home discloses the fact that their daughter/niece/sister was killed in the 1920's.
I have been in this canyon many times and I can tell you it is a very narrow and creepy place. The is a spot called the secret sidewalk where we used to go and party in the middle of the canyon and a place called The Devil's Workshop ( a head shop, but i've never been in it .......really! ok maybe once to use the restroom...) on the Fremont end of the canyon. I remember once driving through the canyon with the windows down we heard a scream that sounded like it was right outside the car and it was not from any animal. The creepy part was we were doing about 50mph and it didn't sound like we passed some one screaming, it sounded like it was next to the car the whole time . From what I hear there is supposd to be a movie out soon based on this haunting. _________________ people in glass houses should not throw stones, or big wild parties. Hey reap. How old is the story about the unsuspecting motorist? I am wondering cause if this 'ghost rider' was killed in the 1920s and the people at the door say she was a daughter/niece, then that would make them at least 110. hehehe
I think your experience is much creepier. Have you been there recently to try and investigate, maybe do some EVP work?? _________________ ~The Forum Nazi~ |

What about the Whaley House???
it's supposed to be California's #1 haunted spot.
And there's a little campground out in the desert that's built around the Vallecitos Stage Station. There we have the nameless "White Lady" that appears.
She apparently arrived by stage coach and was waiting for her fiancee to arrive later. She became ill on the trip and died shortly after arriving and before giving her name. Sadly, her fiancee never arrived.
There is a blank gravestone for her within the campground. _________________

| FYI--The Queen Mary has added sound effects and other gadgets to enhance the Halloween haunt they have for a couple of weeks every October. What was once just rumor and eye-witness stuff was exaggerated by trickery to scare the locals when they pay their entry fee. Much like the Brewery that Taps investigated in Monterey. If you're ever in SoCal, check out the Banning house in Wilmington. (Near the Queen Mary) It's little known, but everytime I go there things happen. It's a Union fort C. 1860. There's a museum there called the Drum Barracks. Creepy even in full sunlight. I've been meaning to get back there with all the toys I have now and see if I can get anything on film or get some EVPs. There is DEFINATELY some action going on in there. |

The way I hear-tell, it was a worker who was crushed when water-tight door #13 closed on him. There's also supposed to be a little girl near the pool area and a man in the lounge who doesn't like anyone sitting at his table and a worker who got trapped inside the inner and outter hull while it was being built. Supposedly he bangs a wrench on the metal to get help. Years ago I worked at the Hilton Hotel next door and heard all the stories. But I wouldn't trust a damn thing in there now.
